The Curley Surname DNA Project through FTNDA is starting a full court press to find test subjects! We are especially interested in representatives of the historic Scottish Kerley lineage and the Norman English Curlieu lineage! The goal is to define the genetic patterns identifying each of these groups, and determine whether these groups are related to any of the previously identified genetic groups, including the Irish Curley lineage, the Ulster Scot McCurley/McCarley lineage, and the English Kerley lineage.
Right now, we have documentation that clearly identifies a few distinct historical populations in the British Isles. And in the DNA test project, we have a few major groups. The Irish genetic group clearly corresponds with the historical Irish population. But it's not clear how the DNA groups from Scotland and England relate to the respective historic groups. Eventually, we'd like to figure out exactly when and where each of these family groups originated and how they relate to each other.
If you represent the Scottish Kerleys or English Curlews (or related name spelling), please contact me at [email protected] or order a DNA test through the Curley project at FTDNA. If your lineage is particularly relevant to the project's research goals, we may be able to partially or fully fund your DNA test. Just shoot me an e-mail.
